Argentinos Used Pressure to Keep the Annual Title Open

Argentinos Juniors forced the two errors behind a 2-1 win at Atlético Tucumán. That pressure, not scoreboard protection, is the route into Saturday's annual-title finale.

The table changed after the pressure did

Argentinos Juniors left Tucumán level with Boca on 60 points in the annual table and qualified for the 2027 Copa Libertadores. Those are the consequences. The mechanism arrived first: Nicolás Diez's team forced Atlético Tucumán into two first-half errors and converted both before the match became an exercise in protecting the prize.

Matías Giménez Rojas scored after Argentinos pressed a failed buildup in the 30th minute. Thirteen minutes later, Tomás Molina chased another defensive action and Clever Ferreira turned the ball into his own goal. The score sheet gives Argentinos one scorer and one own goal. The two sequences give them two rewards for making the home side solve the ball under pressure.

That distinction should govern Saturday's finale against Huracán. Argentinos cannot control Boca's match with Defensa y Justicia or Rosario Central's result. They can control whether their own title attempt begins with the same aggressive question.

Giménez turned the first error into a shot

The opening half-hour had offered little fluent football. Then Atlético tried to leave from the back, Argentinos compressed the pass and the loose ball reached Giménez outside the area. He set himself on his left foot and found the upper corner beyond Luis Ingolotti.

A goal from distance can tempt analysts into admiring the finish until the possession before it disappears. The finish was excellent. The repeatable work was the pressure that prevented Atlético from choosing the next pass. Giménez received facing goal because the team had already turned a buildup into a defensive emergency.

He was replaced eight minutes later. That personnel change matters for Saturday without changing the principle. Argentinos do not need another player to reproduce the exact shot. They need the front line and midfield to recognize the same poor receiving angle, close it together and give the next attacker a ball that already faces the goal.

Molina made the second mistake expensive

The second goal was officially Ferreira's own goal. It was also a lesson in why pressure must continue after the first reward. Molina chased the defensive action near the end of the half, Ferreira attempted to clear and the ball travelled past his own goalkeeper.

Own goals are not a tactical category a team can order in advance. Decisions under pressure are. Argentinos made the clearance urgent, occupied the route around the ball and collected the mistake. That is more useful than describing the visitors as clinical, a word that often means the mechanism has been placed in a lab coat and hidden from view.

Two goals from two opponent errors can still be fragile evidence. Atlético's late response proved that. But the errors shared a cause sturdy enough to test again: Argentinos moved toward the decision before the defender had a comfortable answer.

The final minutes reject a victory lap

The second half supplies the counterargument. Atlético pushed, Mateo Mendoza conceded a penalty and Alexis Canelo reduced the deficit in the 86th minute. Luciano Vallejo's second yellow arrived near the end, after the home side had already made Argentinos defend a one-goal margin.

That finish prevents a clean claim that the press controlled the match. The early pressure built a two-goal lead; it did not remove the need to escape, keep the ball or defend the box later. A title contender cannot treat the first half as a deposit large enough to stop making attacking decisions.

Argentinos held on, and that resilience counts. It should not become Saturday's plan. Waiting for the table to close is not game management. It is allowing every external score and every late whistle to enter the team's own penalty area.

The table supplies the final obstacle

Argentinos host Huracán at 17:30 on Saturday. They enter the final round level with Boca in annual points while goal difference favors Boca, and Rosario Central remain part of the same decision. The arithmetic makes another team's stumble necessary. It does not make Argentinos passive.

Goal difference and outside results set the ceiling on what Argentinos can win. They do not choose the first action against Huracán. That distinction is the only useful way to carry a title race that is partly in other stadiums.

Saturday belongs to the first trigger

The first useful measurement is not the live table. It is the first Huracán buildup played toward a marked receiver. Molina or the next forward must close the return pass, and the midfield must arrive before the receiver can turn. If Giménez is unavailable or limited, the next attacker still has to take the shot or next pass once the pressure wins the ball.

Qualification for the Libertadores is already secured. The annual title remains open because Argentinos forced two actions in Tucumán and finished the night with 60 points. On Saturday, they should make Huracán answer the football question before anybody checks Boca's score.
