Count the Press Before Raimondo's Hat Trick
Antonio Raimondo returned with a hat trick against Sassuolo, including two finishes after goalkeeper errors. Frosinone's pressure and repeated box occupation are the durable story.
The first two finishes came with an accomplice
Antonio Raimondo returned to Frosinone's Serie A lineup and scored three times in a 4-2 win over Sassuolo. The hat trick made him the league's leading scorer with seven goals in seven appearances. It also arrived in three different pieces, and pretending they were equal would waste the best part of the night.
For the first, Arijanet Muric lost a cross in the area and Raimondo reacted before everyone around him. Three minutes later, another misread by the goalkeeper left the forward with an empty net. Those were serious Sassuolo errors. They were also tests of attention, and Raimondo passed both before the defense had finished processing the mistake.
Frosinone should celebrate the striker without converting Muric's evening into a promise of three goals every week. The repeatable evidence begins with how often their pressure and penalty-area occupation placed Raimondo close enough to make a bad touch expensive.
The press wrote the opening sentence
Giacomo Calò's ninth-minute opener supplied the cleaner version of the collective argument. Sassuolo tried to build inside their own area, Frosinone pressed the possession and Calò finished the loose ball. Berardi equalized six minutes later, but the home side did not retreat into the comfort of having proved a point once.
Massimiliano Alvini said afterward that Frosinone chose to attack Sassuolo higher so the visitors would spend less time near the home penalty area. The risk was visible when Berardi escaped into the space behind. The reward was a match played close enough to Muric that hesitation became a scoring chance.
That is the mechanism worth naming. The promoted side did not reach 13 points by asking Raimondo to wait for service while everyone else protected the draw. It shortened the distance between the first pressure and the finish. When Sassuolo's control broke, Frosinone already had players on the scene.
The third goal belongs in a different file
Raimondo's 57th-minute goal carried more useful attacking information. Kvernadze crossed, Ghedjemis headed and Muric saved. Raimondo arrived for the rebound from the center of the six-yard area. The goalkeeper did his job on the first attempt; the striker won the next action.
That sequence can travel. It asks a wide player to deliver, a second attacker to contest the first ball and the centre-forward to keep moving after the initial shot. Raimondo was not waiting for a goalkeeping accident. He was occupying the place where a normal save becomes a second chance.
Frosinone finished with 21 shots and 10 on target despite having less than half the possession. Volume alone does not guarantee quality, but it shows the hat trick did not float above an empty performance. The attack kept making Sassuolo defend actions in and around the box.
Seven goals deserve more than a variance lecture
The strongest counterargument is that this caution has arrived absurdly late. Raimondo has seven league goals in seven appearances. A centre-forward's job includes smelling a loose ball before the goalkeeper, and no statistical disclaimer has ever beaten a striker to a rebound.
Correct. Calling the first two goals gifts would erase the anticipation required to accept them. It would also treat finishing as though only the final swing of the boot belongs to the forward. Raimondo's first movement, balance and refusal to stop after a save are skills.
The distinction is about what Frosinone can control around him. They cannot schedule another goalkeeper error. They can keep pressing the first pass, filling the box with a second attacker and delivering from positions that let Raimondo hunt the next touch. The goals belong to him. The conditions must belong to the team.
Atalanta should test the supply, not the headline
Frosinone visit Atalanta on October 25. A stronger opponent may clear the first cross, play through the opening pressure or force Raimondo farther from goal. That makes the next test more revealing than another count of his shots.
Watch where his first five touches arrive. If they come with his back to goal near midfield, Frosinone have allowed the hat-trick story to conceal a disconnected attack. If Kvernadze, Ghedjemis and Calò keep creating a first and second action near the box, the striker will not need Muric's help to remain involved.
Raimondo's return changed the table and the scoring chart in one night. The responsible response is not to make him smaller. It is to identify what made him dangerous after the errors ended. Carry the press, the extra runner and the rebound occupation to Bergamo. Then the hat trick becomes evidence of a system helping a player, rather than a player being asked to become the system.
