What Travels From Genoa's Three Home Wins?

Tommaso Baldanzi created the opener and scored the second as Genoa beat Juventus 2-0. The next step is taking that first-half pressure—and one reliable exit—to Lecce.

Marassi has supplied the recovery

Genoa's 2-0 win over Juventus was their third consecutive home victory and their third win in four league matches. The sequence matters because the season began with three defeats. Daniele De Rossi's side did not wait for the calendar to become gentle; they made Fiorentina, Venezia and Juventus pay at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Tommaso Baldanzi gave the latest win its football shape. He crossed for Kingsley Ehizibue's 12th-minute opener, then collected the loose ball for the second before the half-hour. The first action stretched Juventus toward the far post. The second punished a defence still trying to recover from a transition.

Now the question leaves the stadium. Genoa visit Lecce on Sunday. A home run becomes a team identity only when its main mechanism survives different noise, different grass and an opponent that does not arrive carrying Juventus's expectations.

Baldanzi connected pressure to consequence

Intensity is the easiest word to borrow after a win like this. De Rossi praised a spirited, forceful performance. That description becomes useful only when attached to actions: Baldanzi attacked the byline before crossing for Ehizibue; on the second goal, Genoa turned a Juventus corner into a transition, Vitinha won the duel with Pierre Kalulu and Baldanzi arrived for the loose finish. One contribution asked him to create the final pass. The other asked him to follow the counter far enough to become the finisher.

That is what should travel to Lecce. When the wide player breaks the line, the opposite runner must attack the far post. When Vitinha or another forward wins a transition duel, Baldanzi must keep arriving near the penalty spot. Ferocity without the second movement is only cardio with better public relations.

The opening half-hour was more than survival

The league report says Juventus were already two down inside 30 minutes. Corriere della Sera recorded seven Genoa shots from inside the area in the first half against two for Juventus. Genoa were not merely defending a famous opponent and hoping the stadium could carry a counter into the net.

They occupied the dangerous spaces first. Ehizibue reached the far side. Baldanzi moved from provider to scorer. Juventus's best first-half chance fell to Kalulu just before the interval, after Genoa had already set the terms.

That distinction matters for a club recovering from a difficult start. The October wins are not only a table correction. They show a side capable of choosing where the match is played for meaningful stretches. The next step is to make that choice before the Ferraris crowd has to supply the voltage.

The second half still asked for an exit

Juventus introduced Edon Zhegrova and Nick Woltemade, pushed higher and created late chances. Zhegrova forced a save, Teun Koopmeiners struck the crossbar in stoppage time and Jhon Lucumí was denied by Justin Bijlow. Genoa protected the clean sheet, which is evidence of discipline rather than an apology. It is also the strongest counterargument to declaring the performance complete: the final phase depended more on defending the box and Bijlow's interventions than on carrying a threat away from pressure.

Lecce will test a different problem. Genoa may be asked to hold more possession or to attack a lower block. When pressure arrives, they need one exit that keeps Baldanzi and the forwards connected instead of turning every clearance into another Lecce possession. The home run was built by attacking forward; it should not travel as retreat.

Lecce decides whether October changed the floor

The fairest caution is that three home wins do not erase three opening defeats. Juventus hit the bar, Genoa's second goal took a deflection and the stadium has been an obvious source of energy. A month can improve a season without proving that every earlier weakness has gone.

That is why Sunday offers a cleaner test than another speech about values. Watch Genoa's first recovery in midfield. Does the next pass find Baldanzi facing forward? Does a wide runner reach the far post when he crosses? After halftime, does one forward remain available beyond Lecce's pressure?

If those actions appear, the Juventus win will belong to a developing method rather than a home-only surge. Marassi has already given Genoa their recovery. Lecce must show that the team can carry it.
